Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region

Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is situated in northern part of central Poland. Owing to such location we bind the north-western and north-eastern part of the country and the regions of northern and central Poland. The biggest cities are Bydgoszcz (380 thous. inh.) and Torun (200 thous. inh.) which constitute the metropolitan area in the central part of the region.

The competences of the regional authority cover all the aspects of regional development: education, infrastructure, environment, investment, health, culture etc. Kujawsko-Pomorskie is a dynamically developing region with the major role of the industries: food, pulp and paper, chemical, electro machine and plastic ones. Springs of mineral waters and deposits of halite and limestone create recreational and medical resorts in Inowroclaw and Ciechocinek.

The basic competences of self-government in waste management domain are developing and updating the Waste Management Plan of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region. The document is the basis of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region actions in domain of environmental policy and creation other industry programs, and it poses the base for the formulation of guidelines for district and communal environmental programs. In addition, the self-government gives its opinion about the national, district and communal waste management plan projects, carries out a report on the realization of regional waste management plan. Also it regulates and monitors the waste management in region by issuance and maintenance permits for manufacturing, recycling and disposal of wastes and keeping the Regional Waste System. The self-government participates in the process of legislation through giving its opinion and participating in the creation of legal acts in waste management domain.
Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region also takes part in the Waste to Energy Project (INTERREG IVC), which relates to rational waste management and use of alternative energy sources.
