4th Expert Advisory Board meeting in Rimini

The fourth Expert Advisory Board (EAB) meeting within the CERREC project took place on the 6th of November 2013 in Rimini. The main aim of the meeting was to start a discussion about the draft of the “accreditation system for re-use networks” for the CERREC project. obr1

Transnational Workshop on the Accreditation System in Graz

Within the development and testing of an accreditation system for repair and re-use centres and networks, CERREC project partner ARGE from Austria organised a transnational workshop on the accreditation system on September 10th – 12th, 2013 in Graz. During the workshop, representatives of the CERREC project partners together with external experts and members of the Expert Advisory Board (EAB) discussed the existing concept for the accreditation system, the quality standards and undertaken first planning steps for the development of a training programme for accreditation auditors.

CERREC Transnational Exchange Platform

One of the main outputs of the CERREC project is the creation of an online Transnational Exchange Platform for Repair & Re-Use. It is a user-friendly tool which provides a great amount of information. Beside project information, background legal documents and re-use related news – the website provides a platform for offering or finding products and services as well as a forum to share interests and knowledge about repair and re-use for registered users.

Benefits of better implementation of EU waste legislation

The CERREC project partners are currently working on action plans for re-use and repair on national or regional levels. These should support local stakeholders in planning and implementing measures for sustainable waste management in general and for better implementation of re-use and repair requirements of EU waste legislation in particular.
The importance of this CERREC initiative is clearly proven by European Commission study called „Implementing EU Waste Legislation for Green Growth“. The study demonstrates the benefits for Member States to work further on better implementation, but also brings a calculation, that not only the environment, but also society and the economy would strongly benefit from improved waste legislation across the EU.

Re-use activities:

Coming into action: Re-use Network Tyrol

Report on CERREC pilot activity in Tyrol, Austria

In the Province of Tyrol a new re-use network was initiated through the instruments of the CERREC project. Although the structures in the field of waste management and work-integrated-social-enterprises (WISE) were favourable, the process to establish such a network began from the scratch. Therefore in 2012 a moderated process with regional stakeholders from waste management and work-integrated social enterprises started in order to define the state of the art, re-use potentials and discuss possible forms of cooperation as well as coming pilot activities. In 2013 as a consequence the members of the working group – consisting of four socio-economic enterprises and a number of representatives in the field of waste management – defined to carry out 30 re-use collection days in different municipalities or housing estates all over the province of Tyrol.

Re-use EVENT:

Review of Austrian Re-Use Conference 2013

Austria hosted one of the few conferences devoted exclusively to the re-use topic. The Austrian Re-Use Conference 2013 took place on 26th and 27th June in Graz and focused on the two main topics – “Re-use on the way towards a European success” and “Re-use of textiles”. About 80 people from all over Europe joined the two-day event, organised by the ZERO WASTE ACADEMY of ARGE. Re-use experts from Belgium, Ireland, Slovenia, Germany and Austria presented their initiatives and activities on re-use, highlighting the status of implementation in Europe.

CERREC project meeting:

6th General Transnational Meeting in Rimini, Italy

Already the 6th CERREC project meeting took place on the 5th – 7th of November in Rimini, Italy. The meeting was organised by the Province of Rimini and the highlight of the program was the CERREC conference “Repair- and Re-Use Centres and Networks: experiences from Central Europe” organised within the EcoMondo 2013 fair, taken place also in Rimini.

In addition to the familiar project issues, the GTM meeting included also a visit of a pilot activity “Rimini Riutilizza!”, of the Province of Rimini a meeting of Expert Advisory Board experts and the above mentioned CERREC related conference.

Evaluation Conference on Quality Standards at EcoMondo Fair

The date of the 6th GTM was set to coincide with the EcoMondo fair 2013, where the project partner Provincia di Rimini was participating with a stand. This possibility of representation to a broader audience provided the chance to carry out a public conference at the EcoMondo fair. The main topics of the conference were a presentation of several chosen pilot actions throughout the project area and a conference on the evaluation of quality standards for re-use process chain. obr2
